Religion and Other Groups

In 198X, the major real-life religions have largely been erased due to the certainty that their divine entities, in the end, could not save them. In the aftermath of so much pain, confusion and the struggle to survive, the old religions are a mix of out of place, counterproductive and inaccurate. As people find a place to make life sustainable, their thoughts may drift anew to the age-old question. What do I believe in now?

Characters have the choice to create or join a religion or other group in 198X. Mechanically speaking, there is no distinction between a religion and a group, though each group has its own paradigm, and can be quite different from the others. To use the Inspire skill on others, a character must create or join a group. There may also be some construction plans structured around groups.

A character may only be a Leader for one group at a time, becoming a leader for a different group requires a minimum 30 minute [RP timer] with pomp and circumstance being encouraged but not strictly required. Anyone may join any number of groups, though some group membership requirements may restrict other group options.  Each group is responsible for determining their own guidelines within the restrictions laid out by the code of conduct, religion section, and the rulebook in general. Each group starts with 1 Leader slot, every 10 members(including Leaders) adds an additional Leader slot for that group.

While some currently practiced religions may persist into the apocalypse, PCs are not permitted to portray any real-life religions that they, as players, do not belong to. As a reminder, players are also always beholden to the Code of Conduct and our stances on bigotry, misconduct, and denigration.

Characters may not use any previously known entity names (ie, Thor, Horus, Ares, etc) when creating their own groups. However, the entity may be loosely based on previously known concepts or ideas, just not the same names or key characteristics. Please also note that no characters may create a group that mocks a previously known religion. We all must take into account everyone's feelings and ideals.

For example, a player-created Religion could have Skor, God of Plunder. Instead of summoning storms and lightning, they can make plunder appear. When those who believe in them find plunder, they say things like, "Ah, yeah, Skor!" to acknowledge their fortune.

Any player-created group must be approved by staff before use. The intent is to allow a reasonable degree of expression without offending anyone.  If specific groups turn out to be more offensive than expected, they will be required to change or be abandoned. You may submit the form below to inform staff of your group.
