Heart and Will
Heart represents a character’s physical hardiness and ability to endure physical damage and fatigue. Will represents a character’s mental reserves and ability to perform tasks that take effort and concentration. Both attributes are pools that begin full and are depleted through damage or use. For example, if a character is hit by a weapon that deals 2 damage, their current Heart pool has been reduced by 2. If a character uses a skill that requires them to spend 5 Will, the player will note that their current Will pool has been reduced by 5. Some skills and items refresh lost Heart and/or Will.
At 2pm and 2am, called Deuces, Heart and Will pools are automatically refreshed to full, unless the character has a Condition that prevents refreshes. Heart and Will pools cannot go above the maximum listed on the character sheet unless an item or ability specifically allows it.
All characters start with 10 Heart and 10 Will. Additional Heart and Will can be purchased at character creation with your starting XP (14) and XP earned in-game.
Heart and Will are purchased on a sliding scale. The more Heart and Will you buy, the more it begins to cost. This is the cost per point purchased - you don't pay for the first 10 points you start with.
