Starting Equipment and Costuming
A large part of 198X is about world immersion and attempting to make our surroundings and ourselves as “genre-fied” as possible. Costuming is a vital part of that goal. A new player will receive an armor card based on their armor costuming at the start of their first game. Starter armor cannot be upgraded or modified, cannot have the Reclaim skill used on it, and it never expires. Much of players' costuming will be based around their Clique (see Cliques chapter). We ask that players do their best to represent their costuming for the apocalypse. Costuming and armor must also always be safe: for the wearer, others, and the weapons that will invariably strike the costuming. Ensure that there are no hard points or edges, studs are mostly flush with the surface, and nothing is sharp.
Players will receive one starting weapon, shield, or gun for each physical representation that they bring to game. These starting weapons deal basic weapon damage for their type, cannot be upgraded or modified, and cannot have the Reclaim skill used on them. Anyone may acquire a new starter item by spending a 30 minute [RP timer] wandering the woods looking for something suitable, then going to the Principal's Office. How far you go is up to you, but you have to be outside and in character, so if you have no weapon, you might want to bring a friend.
