Reputation
The reputation system used by 198X is a dynamic way to track your progress and impact in the surrounding world. Character interactions with NPC Townships will have tangible consequences on the world that will affect gameplay for themselves and others.
Character sheets have a section marked Reputation. In this section, you will find NPC Townships or groups that you have improved or worsened your reputation with over the course of the game. These NPC Townships will have associated values that will fluctuate over time. NPC Townships will change through the actions of players. Collecting Reputation points will allow PCs to earn Influence Levels with Townships, the points are cumulative and Influence Levels are recalculated between games. PCs default to 0 Influence Level when created, with the option of having an Influence Level of 1 for a single Township after submitting a written background that justifies this reputation.
A character’s Influence Level with NPC Townships will allow access to special adventures, merchants, NPC characters, NPC Township-specific plans, and gear. Reputation with one Township will impact how other NPC Townships view your Settlement, for good or ill. Choose wisely when determining how you want your character's Reputation with other NPC groups to progress.
To improve your Influence Level with an NPC group, you will need to complete tasks or collect in-game items for that Township, depending on the NPC Township’s needs or interests.
